Español 1

¿Cómo? How?

¡Bienvenidos a Español 1!

This semester in Spanish 1, students will primarily acquire the Spanish language through the use of storytelling. Storytelling is a proven method of second language acquisition that pushes repetitive, diversified and personalized use of the language itself. Through weekly stories, students will be immersed in two days of storytelling in Spanish which is completely comprehensible and appropriate for the student's  level. Each week stories focus on target structures beginning with the most frequently used words in Spanish. As I guide students through the story students determine the details  and characters so that it is personalized and meaningful to them. With students as characters, students constantly engage in dialog and constant input (listening and reading comprehension) as well as output (speaking and writing) throughout the whole process. This method is highly successful and very much dependent on consistent attendance as language acquisition requires repetitive and immersive experiences.

Conjunta de trabajo Portfolio

A passing grade in this class will be determined by the successful completion of the portfolio. The portfolio includes all work that will be required of you all semester. Since a language is assessed in five ways; reading, writing, speaking, listening and cultural knowledge the portfolio incorporates each of these modes of language learning while also allowing for choice and personalized pace. As you will see in the portfolio certain assignments have deadlines, the assignments that don't have deadlines need to be completed by Friday, June 2, 2017 when the portfolio is collected.
